Communicating Missed Homework Assignments to Parents

I am sure that I am not alone when I say that homework completion is a constant problem for my students.  I started doing something new this year and have seen positive results.  When a student comes into class without their homework they get the usual goose egg in the grade book with a twist.  They have to email their parents and tell them why they did not complete that assignment and c.c. their advisor, Jamie Dwan and myself.  The students obviously hate this new rule but their parents love it!  I have been receiving emails from parents thanking me for the increased communication.  Feel free to use this method in your classes!
